For the first time in over 6 years working where I work, I’ve been called to not show up for the first time. My girlfriend currently sits at the parking lot of her job, in her car, where she has been for the past 2 hours, waiting on traffic to get going. My aunt is stuck at a parking lot as well, she got off work hours ago but still hasn’t been able to make it home. Businesses big and small all over the state are closing as the entire state goes into complete paralysis due to the severe snow storm going on.
I’m hoping that our power doesn’t go out, it’s one of the worst things that can happen when you can’t even leave your house because the streets are so dangerous. The worst part of where I live during this time of year is the tight turns and steep hills that we have to take to get to or leave our home. I hope everyone makes it home safely.
Russia has put a new law into effect that I feel is a positive step forward to deterring terrorism. President Putin signed the law that now holds relatives, and close friends of terrorists accountable to any damage done by the terrorist attack, even emotional damage.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law a bill that forces relatives of terrorists to pay for damages caused by their attacks. It also boosts penalties for launching, participating, or financing militant or terrorist groups.
Under the law, all damages – including moral damage – should be compensated “at the expense of the means of the person committing the terrorist act and also at the expense of the means of his [or her] family, relatives and close people.”
The new law was carefully written so that there has to be sufficient evidence that those being held accountable received money, valuables, or other property in result of the terrorist attack. This law also forces those being held accountable for the terrorist’s attack damage must turn in their property or else it will be seized for inspection.
I like this law because usually terrorists commit suicidal attacks because they are promised that their families will be taken care of after the attack. This should deter such attacks, or at least give them one less reason to do it. I wish the U.S would implement a very similar law, considering we tend to get most of the terrorists attacks here, or at least it seems that way.
New York City’s Empire State Building just got a new lighting system that they tried out for Halloween, it’s pretty neat.
I’m currently residing in North Carolina, and I’ve always know this state as being a little too far under the bible belt. We have laws against selling alcohol before noon on Sundays, and gay marriage is a pretty big debate here. This led me to search what other crazy laws this state has, and I was surely not disappointed. I found quite a few, but here are the most interesting ones, along with some information on them.
Click on the panes to reveal information I found on each of these laws.
[pane title=”It is a felony to steal more than $1000 of grease.”]This is a law that apparently became effective this year. In North Carolina small bio fuels producers use leftover grease to create biodiesel that can be used to run special equipped automobiles or home heating systems. These small companies buy grease from restaurants that would otherwise discard it. Grease has gone from being trash to a valuable resource in the past recent years due to this new technology, and as with everything else valuable, comes the act of theft. This new law makes it so that anyone caught stealing more than $1,000 worth of grease would be guilty of a low level felony, and anyone stealing less than $1,000 of grease would be guilty of a misdemeanor.[/pane]
[pane title=”While having sex, you must stay in the missionary position and have the shades pulled.”]I found no information on this law, but I did find that many other websites recognized this as a law from North Carolina.[/pane]
[pane title=”A marriage can be declared void if either of the two persons is physically impotent.”]This law doesn’t say that the marriage must be automatically void if both people are impotent, but rather that it can be void. “…or between persons either of whom is at the time physically impotent…” Source: Chapter 51, Marriage, Article 1, General Provisions 51-3.[/pane]
[pane title=”Serving alcohol at a bingo game is not allowed.”]”Allowing gambling in houses of public entertainment; penalty.” This law is meant to prevent people from getting drunk and gambling their life away, but it technically includes Bingo, since it involves stakes in some places.[/pane]
[pane title=”Organizations may not hold their meetings while the members present are in costume.”]No holding meetings or demonstrations while wearing masks, hoods, etc. Basically no wearing anything on your face if you’re 16 or older, unless you get written permission from the owner or occupier of the property, and the written permission must be submitted and recorded in your county. This law was meant to discourage KKK members from operating within the state. They are known for wearing white hoods and organizing meetings or demonstrations.[/pane]
It’s hard to believe that some of these laws even exist, but I did find that as crazy as some of these sound, it seems some of them are actually necessary. If you want to know what crazy laws exist in your state, you can check them out at http://www.dumblaws.com/.
Here is my first recorded StarCraft 2 video for this website. I did a 2v2 random on ladder.
